Disturbing Skype Service

Filed under: Voip — VOIP @ 7:09 pm

Of recent the service from Skype has not been very good, whenever I have tried to make a call from Skype the quality has been quite bad. My own voice repeats back, which is quite annoying. Even after disconnecting the service and re connecting it again the problem still persists. But when connecting Skype through the laptop the quality is much better and there is no problem with sound. So if in future when ever you are use Skype and you don’t have good enough quality try using it on a laptop.

Cheapest voip option to call North America

Filed under: Voip — VOIP @ 5:33 pm

There are a lot of companies which offer voip calls to land line numbers and mobiles in North America and the rest of the world as well and I have used a few myself but in the end I have opted for skype as their voice quality is the best and beats competition by a lot of margin. The best thing about skype is that it even works with a 64kbps connection and even on a dial up connection with a little bit of lag which no other voip service provider is able to do. Skype in is a service which allows you to get a number of your own which any one can call and you can choose between different locations like Canada, USA, UK and a lot of other countries.

Although the voip market is booming, many people do not realize that making international calls costs money, but when they think of money being charged they drop the idea of using voip services. But in fact using voip services works out to be cheaper than using phone cards or calling direct form your phone. It is near enough half the cost of phone card rates and a much better quality voice conversation. All voip services have different costs, so before using a specific service, know what the costs are.

Calling cards

Filed under: Voip — Tags: — VOIP @ 9:04 pm

The most revolutionary contrivance that the technology has provided us is Calling Cards. Calling Cards give us the ability to call our loved ones, colleagues and Boss at very low-call-rates and that too in very fast and efficient manner. Without these cards, if in any case, you were supposed to make an International call then the service provider might have emptied your complete Bank account. These calling cards are usually following the prepaid card system, where one can access the telecommunication service immediately, just by paying some fixed amount to the service providers. Now, if you want to make an International Call, you do not need to worry about the bill amounts, just buy the International Calling Card of the amount you need and forget all the tortures of paying bills. This is really made life so easy.

Iphone

Filed under: Mobile phones, Voip — VOIP @ 9:46 pm

I saw the new Iphone for the first time yesterday ( I dont really take much interest in mobile phones) and was pretty amazed with the touch screen functions this iphone is capable of. The iphone I saw had an Idea sim card in it and the websites loaded amazingly fast and was almost comparable to a broadband connection browsing wise. The way you can zoom into a page anywhere you want is something I had never seen before and comes in handy when you want to read something or zoom into a picture. The camera without going into the specs had extremely good quality enabeling you to substitute your camera with an iphone when you need it.

I might buy one in the next week or so but I am still looking for other options.. Does anyone know if we can download skype on an iphone? and use it with the edge enabled gprs connection?

VOIP using wimax phones

Filed under: Voip, Wimax, Wireless — VOIP @ 12:31 am

Nokia will be launching their first ever wimax enabled phones some time next year and that nokia wimax phone will be capable of running external applications like skype and other voip softphones.

I am very very hopeful that voip will pick up in a big way in India once wimax enabled mobile devices are available at a reasonable price as voip calls will be literally free to call on other voip devices.

Wimax phones will most likely be a big hit in the India market and will prove to be a massive damage to the conventional gsm mobile operators cutting their customer base day by day.

VOIP getting cheaper in India

Filed under: Information Technology, Internet, Mobile phones, Voip — VOIP @ 8:45 am

Indian government has relaxed some rules in favor of voip service providers which has resulted into a steep fall in prices we pay for making a call into India from anywhere in the world. The telecoms regulatory authority is planning on making call termination charges at par with USA which will bring down the call charges to less then 1 cent per min which is at present more then 5 cents.

I remember the days when it used to cost more then 25 pence per min to call India which is about Rs20 per min or 50 cents American which was a bit too much to pay.. One would be better off taking a flight to Delhi instead of spending a few hours on the phone.

Vonage

Filed under: Voip — VOIP @ 2:32 pm

After a long, difficult year, it seems Vonage is able to put another one of their legal battles behind them and potentially end the year on a high note. Or at least higher than it started. Yesterday they announced that their patent dispute has been settled with Verizon, and will be capped at a maximum of $32 million. Of course, this is in addition to the $88 million that has been already accrued and escrowed, so it’s still a sting, but they can now put this chapter to rest and move on.

Voip is killing telephone operators in India

Filed under: Voip — VOIP @ 12:25 pm

In India international calls have been really costly historically but voip has changed it for ever and a call to USA costs less then a local call but the only limitation is that you have to have a good internet connection and need a credit card to use voip.Voip is pretty cheap and skype and google talk are pretty good with excellent voice quality it makes it even better for those who wan to avail cheap international calls and don’t want to compromise on quality.
