India still stuck with 256kbps benchmark

Friday, November 16th, 2007

The government of India has yet again decided to keep the benchmark of 256kbps intact to differentiate broadband from slow internet services. There has been numerous proposals to change the limit to 512kbps like many other developed countries in Europe and North America have right now.

The governments decision comes in saying that they are trying to increase broadband connectivity in the country and dont want to restrict the isp’s in any way for the time being.

This decision comes as a defeat to the customer of isps in India and I am hoping that this decision is reconsidered very soon and the minimum limit is changed to 512kbps as soon as possible.

A number of people have tried to write untrue remarks about me in the past but that is something that happens to everything that is famous :) I like it when people talk about me be it good or bad :) free publicity always helps :)

Keep it up :)

Clashes

Friday, October 19th, 2007

Hindustan Times has reported clashes between Hindu and Muslims in Rajouri during celebrations of India’s victory in cricket. The Hindus were celebrating and Muslims were objecting. This heart burning of Muslims despite the fact that two well-loved persons in the final teams were two Pathan brothers. Who contributed significantly toward India’s win? See the difference in the attitudes we have people of all faiths in our team and we are proud of it. Pakistan had one Dinesh Kaneria, a Hindu whose name was reoriented to Danish to make it look Muslim. Then there is the case of that idiot Yussaf Yohana who was told that to become the captain of the Pakistan team he has to convert. The captainancy is still eluding the poor Mohammed Yussaf.

Bose music systems

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

Bose is pretty costly in India as compared to Dubai and UK even where VAT is at 17.5% but India beats them all and for a basic home theatre system your pocket will loose a whooping Rs115000 but I believe its still worth it coz it comes with a one year warranty and the quality of sound is just exceptional if you are using a good cd. I owned a few music systems but Bose is a class of its own with excellent sound quality, which cannot be described in words.

All planets now to be aligned in a row

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Do you know that during the last week of May this year it was found that all nine planets in our solar system would come exactly in a straight line in the cosmos. Everyone could see this stellar happening provided the night sky was clear of clouds and dust. Every one of us is privileged enough to have a chance of viewing such a magnificent stellar occurrence. It was told to be a simple stellar phenomenon. Somehow few of the astrologers still were of the view that the phenomenon will definitely affect the people in general due to the fact that more of the planets remaining affiliated to a few of the zodiac combinations. Surprising, right!

IBLS INTERNET LAW - NEWS PORTAL

Wednesday, March 14th, 2007

In order to encourage competition between Internet carriers of telephone traffic and traditional telephone the European Commission favors an EU-wide light touch approach to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services. The European Commission launched a consultation on the treatment of Voice over VoIP services under the EU regulatory framework. Based on the conclusions reached in this consultation, the European Commission expressed its intention to promote the development of VoIP services rather than develop detailed guidelines for VoIP. Moreover, VoIP providers often face difficulties to provide guaranteed access to emergency services due to technical limitations. However, rather than impose strict obligations, the European Commission has encouraged market players to collaborate on possible solutions for the provision of emergency access services.

The main objective of the European Commission is to harmonize the legislation in EU countries through directives, regulations and decisions of the European Parliament and of the Council and Commission. In June 2004, a consultation on the treatment of VoIP services under the Regulatory Framework was launched by the European Commission. The purpose of the consultation was to clarify the application of the Directives to VoIP services. In February 2005, the European Commission opted to refrain from developing detailed guidelines for VoIP services. Instead, the Commission merely expressed its intention to promote the development of VoIP services. Further, in order to allow innovative services and market structures to emerge, the Commission urged National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) to take a light touch approach to regulation of VoIP. To this end, the European Regulator Group (ERG) has issued guidelines in some areas of VoIP, but NRAs have been free to develop their own approaches to the treatment of VoIP.

VoIP providers often face difficulties in providing guaranteed access to emergency services due to the technical limitations involved in processing such services. One main difficulty is the provision of a means to identify caller location if VoIP services are provided nomadically.

The Wall Street Journal

Friday, March 9th, 2007

Yahoo has similar broadband deals with major phone companies Verizon Communications and BT Group Plc and Canadian cable Rogers Communications.

The Wall Street Journal highlighted how rivals Google Inc. or Microsoft Corp. in the past year have struck a series of high-profile deals where they pay major computer and media companies for the privilege of marketing services to their partners’ customers, reversing the trend of five years ago when AT&T and others agreed to pay Yahoo.

“Yahoo is likely in jeopardy of losing its AT&T deal, or at least a reworking of the deal that could materially scale back the relationship,” analyst Scott Devitt of broker Stifel Nicolaus warned in a research note to clients issued Friday.

But the source close to the talks said the existing broadband contract includes a provision that AT&T customers who have signed up for the service would remain Yahoo customers for ads and Web services, whether or not AT&T chooses to renew.

Yahoo shares closed down 5.2 percent

Friday, March 9th, 2007

“AT&T and Yahoo’s ongoing partnership is rooted in the open and ongoing dialogue we maintain about future opportunities,” he said.

The two partners introduced advertising on the front page of their joint broadband marketing site earlier this year. Later this month, Plungy said, Yahoo is introducing advertising on their co-branded e-mail service for high-speed customers.

Further mobile ties remain under negotiation.

“We are discussing ways to expand our partnership in the mobile arena, now that AT&T has 100 percent ownership of Cingular,” he said.

Yahoo shares closed down 5.2 percent at $29.12 on Nasdaq. AT&T closed up 4 cents, or 0.1 percent, at $36.55 on the New York Stock Exchange.

AT&T, formerly known as SBC Communications, struck a broadband marketing partnership in 2001 in which SBC pays Yahoo a small cut for each high-speed Internet access customer in return for Yahoo building and managing Web services for customers. The deal covers AT&T customers in the 13 states where the top U.S. phone company offers local phone service.

Microsoft sees billions from VoIP shift

Thursday, March 8th, 2007

Microsoft sees the shift by business organisations to Web-based phone systems running on software to generate “billions” of dollars in revenue for the company, a top executive said on Tuesday. The move to Web-based phone systems will gain momentum during the next three years and Microsoft’s new server software will transform the telecommunication system industry the way its Windows operating system changed the computer industry, said Jeff Raikes, president of Microsoft’s business division.

“You’re going to see history repeat itself,” said Raikes in an interview ahead of a keynote speech at VoiceCon Spring 2007, an industry conference for Web-based telephony.

Microsoft’s strategy in addressing the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) business market differs from that of Cisco Systems Inc.  which is selling fully-integrated systems incorporating its network equipment with its own software.

On the other hand, Microsoft aims to create a distributed business model like the PC industry with its software at the centre. Last year, Microsoft and Nortel agreed on a broad alliance to address the VoIP market.

The software segment of a transformation to VoIP will grow to a $35 billion (18 billion pounds) to $40 billion market, according to Raikes, and Microsoft plans to get a piece of the action.

Reliance broadband

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

I applied for a reliance broadband connection as part of a review attempt for indiabroadband.net but since the day I applied for thier broadband connection there has been no communication from thier side and nor has anyone turned up at my place as promised.

I will have to say that reliance broadband is not a company which you can rely upon if you have any set dead lines as the staff there doesnt have anything to do with this word called customer service and the sales team is getting paid for doing nothing…

If I was a normal customer and if you ask my views about reliance broadband I would say just stay away from them.

SBI

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

The staff at sbi uttam nager in New delhi is very rude and I found out today that none of them is ever willing to work and keep passing work from one table to the another and things just get piled up and stay there for ages.

I went there to see if my cheque which I deposited a few weeks ago have been cleared and the queue was pretty long so I just went to cash counter and thought I would take it all out and put it in my ICICI bank account and when it was my turn every thing seemed ok and the lady told me to wait for some time and after that it was all waiting and waiting and just waiting for 4 hours and thats how much time it took to find out that the funds havent arrived in my account.

I am going to close my account with SBI or may be just leave it to rot after taking out all my money. Will stay with icici as they are a bit more customer focused and this nonsense doesnt happen at thier branches.
