MTNL has an advantage

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

MTNL has said that that its vendor ITI, another PSU under the ministry of communications and IT, is not able to implement the network in Mumbai. That is why it is not able to meet the demand for broadband connections. “Our quality is very good. Therefore, subscribers prefer MTNL’s broadband even if there is a waiting period,” said RSP Sinha, chairman and managing director of MTNL.

However, a Tata official claimed that MTNL has an advantage over its competitors due to last mile connectivity. It is an incumbent fixed line telephone service provider.

The company has a subscriber base of about 4.75 lakh for its broadband services. Of this, about 2.49 lakh subscribers are in Mumbai, while Delhi accounts for the rest 2.26 lakh. In Delhi, there is a waiting list of 2,000. “This is not a waiting list. This is basically booking list and is a routine,” said Sinha. MTNL has a target to provide 10 lakh new broadband connections in this financial year.

MTNL broadband 2mbps offer

Saturday, December 23rd, 2006

Information and technology minister Maran has announced that all pakages of MTNL broadband will be upgraded to 2mbps speed in January which sounds great and is tempting enough for me to switch from sify broadband to MTNL broadband but as of yet they have’nt announced the price structure as to weather the existing prices will previl or would there be a new price structure in view of the increased speeds.

Hopefully if Mr Maran shows some mercy on Delhi netizens he would make it unlimited and keep the same prices and if that happens I would permanently move from UK to Delhi as the only reason I live in UK is high speed internet connection which doesnt go down unannounced. I would really be greatful to Maran if the upload speed is any thing near 512kbps and that will be the end to the misrey I have been going through for the last 4 years.
